Debut: Rainier

Hello all...

Remember when I showed you how I make new wood look old?   For that post, I stripped the top of a desk down and then used the aging technique to get the look of old wood, using only a few household items - no paint or stain.

Here is the finished piece:

RAINIER

BEFORE:

Original hardware.

All drawers are painted inside and out.

This is the result of aging the wood on the top of the desk and then applying two coats of wax.  Check out the link above for the full tutorial.  No paint or stain used - just a few household products.

Subtle distressing.

Rainier is a tiny town in Northwestern Oregon located along the Columbia River.  In this picture, you can see its namesake, Mt. Rainier (located in Washington), from town.

  11. I really love how this turned out. I am working on a similar desk right now and have been debating about how to do the top. I may try this idea.

Om another note, I used to live across the river from Rainier in Longview. We used to cross over that bridge all the time going to rodeos.

  13. I like how you kept the finish on top of the desk and added the color below:) I've been debating whether or not to refinish my dresser and doing a multicolor finish like this, but I just wasn't for sure... This makes me want to try it! Thanks for sharing this!

  28. That desk is beautiful. I rode my bicycle across the country a few years ago and started in Astoria. I think I either went through or was close to Rainier. Oregon is a very diverse state. I don't think people realize that you border ocean, have ski slopes, have beautiful forests, and then have almost desert conditions in the east. It's a beautiful state.
