DIY: Rope & Glass Cloche

Good morning to all of ya!

I have a new DIY that I hope you all will like.

I made my own rope and glass cloche:

This was made using a regular glass hurricane type bowl you can find anywhere, some nylon rope (any will work obviously) and a wood base.  The bases are the pre-cut kind you can get from any craft store.

Actually, at the last minute, I decided to make two more from some mason jars I had on hand  just to see what they’d look like.  I’m happy with how they all turned out…

As you can see, I chose to use a knob that I had as the pull rather than rope, just to mix it up a little.

For the little one, I chose to have a single rope pull rather than a loop.  Both are knotted on the inside and outside to keep it in place.

Here is the scoop on the painted bases:

You may be thinking that you’ve seen something like this before.

Hmmm….let me see.  Maybe here?

Rope Handle Blown Glass Cloche

I think, in total, I was out about $10 (for all three), keeping in mind that I already had the rope, the mason jars and a couple of the bases.    Even if you have to purchase the vessel, the base and the rope, you won’t even come close PB’s $99 price tag.

To keep this post from going on and on like the song that never ends, I will give you the step-by-step instructions on how to drill the holes into your glass, and what tools to use, tomorrow.

UPDATE:  Here is Part Two….showing you how to drill holes in glass.

Be sure to c’mon back!

Be inspired,

  3. Shari, I've been making cloches and wondering if I could drill a hole in the glass to attach the knob with a screw instead of just glue. The glue alone makes me a bit nervous. Can't wait to see how you drill the holes!

Very handsome cloches! I was just looking in a Pottery Barn catalog this evening and noticing all the rope they are using for summer-related decorating. I'm so glad that you are sharing how to drill the holes…I was wondering about that. I saw your post over at "Kammy's Korner".
