Good morning,
I’m just about ready to debut another piece of furniture, but today I wanted to look back at a piece that I still get asked questions about.
Fern.
Fern was one of the first pieces I debuted on this blog. It started out as a very sad little cabinet with messed up legs. This is how I described it:
Fern is our national forests on display. The green hues found on the forest floor and deep browns found on the majestic Douglas Firs, Cedars and Hemlocks are just what you would see on the west side of the Cascades. This deserves to be on display for all to see and experience – just like our forests.
Vintage teardrop handles.
I used Benjamin Moore latex on this piece. From left to right: Pale Vista, Palisades Park, Grasslands, and Sage Mountain. The body is Grasslands.
Yep, I left “chip” there on purpose. I think it earned the right to stick around. ![]()
This was the before:

She is so much cuter now!
Be inspired,

Turning lifetime passion into livelihood. It's about time! I'm Shari. I am a 40-something wife, mother, corporate professional turned design stylist, avid sports fan, and usually exhausted 24/7 keeping up with it all. I love my family, my home, my work...and the chaos that comes with it. I also happen to adore my beagle, Scout.

This is one of my favorite pieces of yours. Ever since it debuted I have wanted to copy it!! I love EVERY one of those colors, and together they are divine!
I love this piece!!!! The colors are fantastic!!! I heart you, Fern.
I like the different colored boards – looks great!
Shari, Wow! It's lovely and your color selections are outstanding. Thanks, Helen
Hi Shari. As soon as I saw the "greens" (in your linky pic) it lured me in. I love green rooms, furniture, etc. This is such a clever looking piece now. Super job! This piece has actually given me an idea for creating some cabinet doors (out of pallet slats). Thanks for the inspiration!
You did a great job! I did not like green very much before and now I love it.
Hugs,
Susan and Bentley
It looks fantastic – amazing job!
This look beautiful! I love the chipped wood in the center of the doors…so much character.
The color palette is so nice. I would love to use that combination. Good inspiration! Deb
Gosh, you sure did a miracle on that little guy. Love your choice of colors and your technique. I found you at Brambleberry Cottage. I hope you'll stop and see me at Quirky Vistas!

Fern is one of my favorite pieces that you've shown, Shari. I love the multi-colored stripes on the door and the dark hardware. A really great looking piece.
Thanks for linking to Time Travel Thursday again. Your talent is always welcome at the party.
Blessings,
Liz @ The Brambleberry Cottage

I love all the different colors on the panels.
Oh! What a terrific vision you have, love the finished piece and I'll now add something like this to my garage sale list. C:
Did you know we're competing against one another for that Homes.com $500? So is it okay that I can't stop myself from stopping by because regardless of the contest, Fern is so very fabulous?
And you do have a beagle. And I do have a beagle.
So I deem this a friendly competition where I'll embrace my competitors as comrades …
I'm even going to tell my readers tomorrow to visit all of you (and include the link to the Homes.com blog post with our links) and encourage them to link up their Pinterest boards at all of you to increase their odds of winning the $500 …
Linda
