My Summer Porches

Good morning!

I’m probably a little late to the party, but with all of the activities, I haven’t had a chance to post about my summer porches.

My porches run the length of the house, on both sides, which allows me to create little vignettes of relaxation.  Our entry stays pretty much the same throughout the year, I just change out the flowers and door hangings to fit the season.  I love the wine barrels there and might move them eventually, but for now, I work with them.  I talked about my burlap and bumblebee door hanging yesterday.

This reading space at one end of the porch faces the west and the evening sun.  Perfect after a long day.  You might recognize that side table.  It is one of my Fremont tables.

This is another great spot to enjoy the evening sun.  Get those beverages on ice, and bring out a couple of snacks and we are set!

Our back porch is where the most action is.   Barbecues, get-togethers, afternoon naps (yeah…right!) and other fun.

This old table was made from a large antique cabinet.  It is the perfect size for our big family to sit down and enjoy a meal.

I have had this chow bell for about 16 years.  It is how I used to “call” the girls home when they were out exploring.  They couldn’t hear my voice, but they could hear this.  I still use it to get Joey but I also use it to let John know that it is quitting time out in the orchard!

I love my hanging baskets and while we have flowers and shrubs planted, my baskets are my favorite.  You have to baby them all season long, but it is worth it.  While we don’t have large decks, a pool, or a grand outdoor kitchen, we  love how peaceful it is here and try to take advantage of it whenever we can.  Luckily, the summers are slightly slower paced so we try to take more down time to enjoy what we have.

Do you use your porches?  Decks? Patios?  Swimming pools?  What is your outdoor space where you relax throughout the summer? How do you style your spaces?

Be inspired,

  1. Shari,

Okay…..your porches are amazing, but can we discuss your photo styling? Seriously? That one picture with the book and the glasses was straight out of a magazine :)

    Have a blessed day!

  2. I may have my own chow bell, but for sure I have stump envy.

  3. That big table is killer! Love it!! Your porches look so relaxing!

  4. I absolutely love what you did with the porch! And I would give just about anything to be able to sit outside in my yard (anywhere) and having a reading nook – unfortunately it’s too dangerous to sit in one’s own garden in our country :-(

  5. GORG-EEE-OOOOO-SO!!!! There is nothing like a little porch sittin’…

We had a dinner bell growing up, but with that yard ‘o yours, you most definitely need that Chow Bell…

  6. I would be in heaven if I had even ONE porch! It all looks so cozy and comfy- perfect for relaxing any time of the day. :-) Sue

  7. Hi Shari! Wow, those porches are fabulous. And what a view. I don’t think I’d ever go inside. Hope you are doing well, friend! :)

  8. What a great place to live!

  9. LOVE! Girl your porch is gorgeous! I love your rustic elements and those barrels are the coolest!

Alas I must admit , I have never been an ‘outdoors kinda gal’ Teen years in NYC outdoors meant shopping in the Spring time for the latest fashion and then again in the summer. :D Loads of time spent roaming the museums, galleries, fashion shows…..
Now I am in Florida. Have been for some time. In the North Central part.. hot sticky summers. However, this year I have been eager to get the patio and the fire pit area in out back garden spruced up and we have actually had meals and spent some lazy evenings outdoors. ** hands on cheek** who is this person :D
    Luv your porches!!!

  11. Hi darling, what a beautiful home you have. The setting is so serene and inviting… love a front porch. The picnic table all set up is darling. Love the bucket full of drinks. What a wonderful way to spend an evening.

  12. I just love that weathered table on your patio!!!! I have been looking for something similar, but to no avail. I’m not giving up, though! It’s gotta be out there somewhere over the rainbow for me! :-) The wine barrels are really terrific, and that Fremont side table…..divine! You have created some really wonderful outdoor living areas!!!!!

  13. Oh I love how green everything is .. just beautiful. Your porches are such grand places. Love your table! And am a wee bit envious of your fuchsia! xo marlis

  14. I love your out door spaces! I would rather be outside more than anywhere else. Your stump table is amazing. I found you from DebbieDoos. You responded to my front door and I thought I would stop by to see your blog. Yup, I am your newest follower! Stop by my place sometime and see the front yard that we have been working on. Any suggestions or comments are welcome!
    Hugs,
