8 Color Palette Options For Autumn

I know many of you are familiar with Design Seeds and may recall an older post of mine where I introduced some of you to the website.   I love how she pulls together colors to validate how compatible they can be.

Fall colors, to me, are the best color palette you can work off of for your home because they come from natural inspiration.  Both warm and cool tones that create balance and anchor a room – yet allow you to accent with seasonal pops of color throughout the year.  An entire room can be created – from the walls to the smallest accent detail.  Furniture, throws, rugs, pillows and artwork can be a potpourri of color if chosen correctly.

Take a look at this living space:

I see oranges (walls), teals (stars), greens (curtains), reds (pool table), browns (furniture, fireplace, woods), whites (trim, bowl), yellows (lampshade, flowers)  and slates (chandeliers, barrel, hearth).  The designer used many colors, yet they all work so well together and you don’t look at this room and think that it can only be pulled off September – November.

Fall colors are not all about orange – although a subtle pumpkin color can be beautiful in a home.  My den is painted in pumpkin with deep walnut wood and white accents and I love it, year round.

Slates, plums, creams, reds, greens, teals, browns and vintage whites are all colors that work well with the season.  Take a look at some of what Design Seeds has put together…

Out of these eight combinations, do you have a favorite?  Do you already use a combination of these colors in your home?  Year round, or just seasonal accents?

If you are in the middle of home projects to get ready for the holidays, perhaps one of these palettes will give you some ideas.  Have a great Thursday!

  1. My house is probably more “mineral autumn”, but boy am I drawn to “autumn view”. I adore Design Seeds and could spend all day on there just looking at color combo’s.

  2. My home is more apple and pear but deeper, richer versions of those colors. I love fall colors and jewel tones. I lighten things up for summer with some white, yellows and brighter greens. But I love when fall rolls around and things get richer and bolder. I am trying some lighter colors on my 2nd floor. Although I really love it- I still prefer the richness and coziness of my downstairs.

  3. Oh definitely the last option!! Fabulous tones and yet, not too autumnal.

  4. Autumn Still and a little of Autumns Journey.

  5. I was looking for Design Seeds website the other day, but I couldn’t find it. I’m glad you mentioned her once again!

My living room has a terra cotta wall and as far as decorating goes, I find it much easier to decorate in the fall than in the winter. But maybe it’s just I’m still testing my decorating wings.

  6. Mmm…fall palettes are my favorite! I would say my home is always a little bit Autumn Journey and a little bit Mineral. This is my favorite time of year!

  7. Since I struggle so much with color I’m looking at these very closely. Thinking about my woodwork and then what appeals to my eyes, I would have to pick……
    Mineral Autumn or
    Autumn Mist or possibly
    Autumn Journey or Autumn View.

So I didn’t really narrow it down did I?

  8. Definitely I am mineral Autumn. Hmmmm, do I use these colors in my seasonal decorating? I wish I did seasonal decorating! Around here, it is decorated, then sits in a state of DIY for a while, until I get tired of it, and gets redecorated again. I need to become a grown up and start treating my favorite spaces with a little more class. Plus, maybe if I did seasonal decorating, I wouldn’t feel the need to completely redoux rooms every two years!
