DIY Rewind: Tiered Buffet & Dessert Service

We are midway through September and getting closer to the busiest entertaining months of the year.

Don’t freak out on me.  I’m just stating the facts.

Right now, we have tailgating – both parking lot and the in-home variety.  For those of you who partake in this football fanfare, we all know that it is more than the food and the friends.

It is about presentation.

And presentation is what its all about once the planning starts for all of the Halloween haunts, Thanksgiving feasts and Christmas parties that will be taking place soon.

First, let’s take a look back at my tiered serving platters.

Go gather up vintage, thrift and/or new dinner plates, dessert plates, and bowls, along with some vases and candlesticks and start creating.  For a full tutorial, and to see more pictures, check out my original post

Next up, are my cupcake pedestals. These were the easiest thing EVER and I use them all the time.

The supply list is about as minimal as it gets:  short candlesticks, coasters and E-6000 glue  (which you can find almost anywhere.)  Click over if you want to see the full tutorial.

How fun are these?!  Something so simple, yet a fun way  to individualize and display desserts on a buffet table, or formal place settings, from the beginning to end.

The best thing about both of these projects is that they can be customized to fit the event.  I kept mine neutral, with a slight slant towards fall, but you can use sports-themed dishes, holiday theme and/or specific color schemes as well.

So, go get your glue and get to gettin’.  You have some parties to plan!

Be inspired,

  2. Okay, I love that someone else is of like mind….I am always putting my food on a pedestal and so many family and friends think I am nutty as a fruitcake (auspiciously displayed on one of my 27 cake pedestals). Love your blog! Can you give me the recipe to those delicious looking cupcakes? I’m dying for one right now. Yum!
