Furniture Debut: Cedar Ridge

Cool, crisp mornings have arrived turning into warm, sunny afternoons.  Perfect fall weather here in the northwest.   It inspires me to want to “do fall” all day long with DIY projects, my home, family activities, and furniture.

It just so happens that I have a piece of furniture that is a result of some of that inspiration.

Wouldn’t ya know Winking smile

This is Cedar Ridge.

Before we go any further, I have three confessions:

1)  I failed to get a BEFORE picture.

I know….big surprise there.

2)  Daylight was coming to an end when I took these pictures, but I didn’t have a choice since I had to deliver this piece first thing the following morning.

So please ignore the shadows and reflections – and don’t be too critical!

3)  I can’t tell you what color it is because it is a custom color that I created using 6 different greens from Annie Sloan and CeCe Caldwell (is combining different brands considered a product foul?)

I knew I needed a quart of paint so I just kept mixing until I had the right color and right amount.  No measurements were made while I was mixing so this is truly a custom piece since the color can never be replicated!

I used clear and medium brown waxes.  I removed the horrendous gold inlay glass panels and replaced them with fencing wire that I spray painted black.

I wanted contrast so I decided to leave the wood finish on the legs, the shelves, the molding and the crown.

A little twist to the makeover:  I painted the bottom of the shelves.

In addition, the original piece had a simple, flat, ugly panel as the back.  I replaced it with this beadboard to match the door fronts on the base.

My AUTUMN wood blocks sure are getting around, aren’t they?

Whew! That was a lot of work but no rest for the weary.

I’m in the middle of another hutch with a whole different look…

…but created from that same fall inspiration.

Be inspired,
