Furniture Debut: Patch

Poor, poor little Patch.

She came to me in dire need of major fixes and while I just might have performed furniture miracles in the past, I think she had me confused with someone else.

I do not walk on water.

I do not part seas.

I cannot change water into wine.

And although I have been known to whip up a large feast for my large family, I have not fed thousands with just a few loaves of bread and a small school of fish.

(If my kids are reading this, you have my permission to continue to believe I walk on water.)

Conflict:  Patch was in the need for major surgery.  I was in the mood for a modest, yet effective, makeover.

Deep wounds.

Really deep wounds.

Nothing that a long spa day couldn’t stabilize.

First treatment?  A modified skin peel.

Rather than removing the veneer like I have in the past – which would have been the entire cabinet – I methodically stripped it in places, and completely removed it from the top.

Makeup? CeCe Caldwell’s Georgia Clay and Cinco Bayou Moss

Waxing? Yep…light, medium and dark combined.

The dark wax emphasized the edges, knots and grooves.

The added accessory?  The original wood knobs with Mother Of Pearl centers.

Don’t we define aging/wrinkles/creases as character?

Whew.  Good thing, because I have a TON of character.

So does Patch.

The picture isn’t quite a true representation of the front with regard to the dark waxing.  It looks here as if the wax is blotchy.  In person, you can see that the dark wax flows along the lines of the veneer edges and gives the panels some definition.

Patch is ready for fall and can’t wait to show off her new makeover in a new home – flaws and all.

Flaunt those flaws!

Unfortunately, I failed to get a picture of the drawers behind the doors.  I will try to get a picture in a few days when I get into the shop and show you, but for now, picture three drawers, in dark walnut stain to match the knobs. Just the right contrast for a finishing touch.

Be inspired,

  1. Is it a mixtue of the two colors, or did you layer them with Georgia Clay on top? I can’t trust my computer to give me an accurate color.
