Winter Hot Chocolate Mix – For Home Or Gift

Good morning!

A little over a year ago, I showed you how I create a winterized beverage station  each year for family and guests to enjoy.

The time has come once again to get it all stocked and ready to go – and that includes making my dry hot chocolate mix.

This mix is a special treat.  In other words sweet, decadent and high calorie.

That is why it tastes so good.

And that is why it is a holiday treat.  Once January hits and the mix is gone, it is back to the Swiss Miss or Carnation off the shelf.

But for now, it is all about indulgence.

Well-deserved indulgence.

Just combine the following:

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 cups Nesquick cocoa
  • 2 cups nonfat powdered milk
  • 1 cup nonfat dairy creamer (dry)
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 4 TBLSP. corn starch (!)

(The corn starch is the secret ingredient that creates a smooth and creamy texture.)

After you have combined everything, sift it into a larger bowl.

You can mix it with either hot water or hot milk – but milk is the best.  I use three heaping spoonfuls for a standard coffee mug, but you may choose more or less depending on taste.

Before I go on, can I just give a big shout-out to Kraft and say THANK YOU for putting these Jet-Puffed Mallow Bits on the grocery store shelves?!!

They are not must mini marshmallows.  They are the freeze-dried oh-so-perfect kind.

They make the perfect topping for the hot chocolate…

….along with chocolate sprinkles and fresh whipped cream of course.

That is the very best part.

You know it is true.

This is the perfect mix to give as gifts as well.

Just fill a mason jar, pretty it up, and attach the recipe. You will make some chocolate lovers very happy this Christmas!

  3. This will be a perfect gift for me to give. What is the ratio of powdered mixture to warm milk for the best flavor? Do you warm the milk and then add the powdered mix or warm them together?

My neighbor was good enough to be bring me home 2 large bottles of Pumpkin Spice Coffee-Mate from the USA last week, as we dont have that here yet. Oh Woa is me.

  7. This looks delicious and truly decadent! I think I’ll make a batch for my cookie exchange party with my sisters this weekend. Great idea!

  8. OK, call me dummy…. I have a question. About how much mix do you use with your milk? 1/2 Cup? I was just wondering, thinking of doubling it if it takes much mix to liquid.
    Anyone know? Thanks!
