DIY: Wood Stopper For Wine Carafe

I’m posting this really late today.  Lots going on!

So much hustle and bustle – one might think it is Christmas or something!

I was browsing through some magazines a couple of weeks ago looking for something to do for Debbie’s copycat challenge and came across this wood stopper from West Elm.

Here is my copycat version:

This was a very easy project for me because I just happened to have both the carafe, and the wood round, believe it or not.

Not only that, I had already stained it months ago so I was steps ahead.

It fit perfectly!

This is what it really is…

Shhhhh….don’t tell anyone.

We will pretend it is round at the bottom as well.

I printed out the letters using Calibri font, size 48.

I was out of carbon paper and since I was already steps ahead, I was determined to not have to make any trips to the store to complete this project.

So it was up to the ol’ pencil trick to get it transferred.

If you haven’t done this before, all you do at this point is take your pencil and draw over the letters to transfer the lead onto the surface.

I wasn’t in the mood to hand paint.

Or stencil.

And I didn’t have any vinyl letters.

So I dug out my wood finish furniture pen and gave it a try.

It worked just fine.

I’d say there was slight bleeding with the stain marker, but to me, it gives it some “age” so I was ok with it.

Since I’m not a big wine consumer, Santa will be putting this is John’s stocking.

I’m 100% convinced he will appreciate every bit of detail and hard work I put into this.

That is, after he asks me what it is and then “why?”

Yep…100% convinced.

Be inspired,
