Remember watching old movies of mid-century glamour?
Or the old black and white television shows where the Mrs. was a homemaker eagerly awaiting for the Mr. to come home from work?
You know which ones I’m talking about….where he would kiss his wife hello and then wander over to a carefully placed beverage center?
Presumably because he had a long, hard day. Or just wanted to get his swag on for the Mrs.
Poor me a scotch.
Shake me a martini.
Just seltzer water please.
Well, guess what? According to House Beautiful, 2013 is welcoming back the cocktail bar.
Aka mini-bar.
Aka dry bar.
{minus the hoop skirt and ribbons of the Mrs., and the slick hair and starched collar of the Mr.}
The mini-bar is meant to be tucked away in a designated, yet somewhat prominent, location in your den, living room, great room, or whatever room you and your guests would most likely partake in a beverage or two.
Alcohol or no alcohol. That doesn’t matter.
It can be stocked however you please.

Here is a drop-down for the minimalist.
Pretty cool, eh?
Or how about this one?
Have bar, will travel. I love how rustic it is…
Along the same lines, I see this as a perfect DIY project from a vintage suitcase.
Somebody out there – get on that will ya? Then shoot me a picture!
This mid mod is ultra hip…
I admit, this one is not my favorite. It reminds me too much of the 1980’s microwave cart.
But, it isn’t all about me now, is it. ?
This one is portable.
For the office? Vacations?
Perfect for Father’s Day…
I had to laugh when I saw this. I have a TV that looks almost identical to this sitting in my furniture inventory. It was given to me by a friend to do something with.
And it has been sitting ever since waiting for me to get my creative juices flowing.
Maybe I’ll be inspired when I work my way to it…
This is simple in design, but ornate in appearance.
Very diva like. The red chair next to it is awesome as well…
Here is another DIY possibility. I think this would be fun – and make a great gift!
Do you agree?…
I don’t have a designated piece of furniture turned mini-bar because I have this instead. It works perfectly for our needs.
However, I will be debuting a piece of furniture tomorrow that can be used for this very thing. It is my first furniture debut of 2013.
Do you think you might jump on the trend train? If so, I have some tips from Martha herself as to how to get one put together.

Whether it be stocked with your favorite spirits, colas, juices or water, your guests will be appreciative.
And quite impressed, I’m sure.
Cheers to 2013!

If old dressers turned into portable patio bars count, I am soooooooooo in style. Finally.

I don’t drink, but I had a huge laugh at the TV bar. That was awesome! I have a vintage suitcase, and I am really tempted to do something like that. You have inspired me! Thanks for sharing.-K
You know what? I started using the tea cart in my dining room as a mini bar at Christmas! I didn’t know I was ahead of a trend, go me
I’ve always used it as a beverage station during parties, then thought why don’t I do that all the time? I was channeling my inner 50′s housewife, I guess…
