DIY: Dwell.

Okay, “DWELL” is my title, but this post is really about another paint option for your projects.

The paint pen.

Use A Paint Pen In Lieu Of A Brush For Signs And Other Projects

You may have seen these around.  They came out (as far as I know) last year and I’ve used them for a handful of projects and love them.  They aren’t for everything, but for small paint projects – and especially those requiring clean lines – they are a great option.

The kind I use is Krylon brand.  It can found in your local home improvement store where they sell the spray paint.  I am not aware of another brand that makes them yet, but they might be out there somewhere.  My  local store sells about six colors.  I have not taken the time to find out if more colors exist as I’ve only used the black and white so far.

I thought I’d whip out a simple sign using an old fence board, carbon paper, and the paint pen.

I printed out “dwell.”  in the LuzSans-Book font, size 260 and traced it onto the board using the carbon paper.

After that, it was just a matter of painting it using the pen.

I did the outline first, then filled in the rest – just as you would with a color crayon.

Because the board was very porous, and because I chose to use white, I had to do three “coats” to make it bright enough to my liking. The first coast made it look ivory, which is still okay if you prefer that.

After it dried, all I had to do was find a place for it…

On my vintage icebox?

My floating shelves?

(ignore those shadows!  I waited too long to take pictures and had zero natural light to help me out. )

My mantle?

(remember…no natural light.  ugh.)

The foyer?

Eh…the floor is probably not a good idea. Winking smile

I may decide to put some eye-hooks in it and hang it on the wall with a small chain or some jute.

Still ponderin’.

Be inspired,

Paint pens have been around for years. They have improved over the years and are available in so many colors today. The first ones were black, white, silver and gold now you can find almost any color you would like. They make something for most surfaces so your ideas can be created with ease. sometime you will need to hunt on the internet for the right pen in the right color. That is just a small inconvenience for the end result. These are so easy to use.

I liked your cute little sign on the floating shelf with the window frame behind it . It seams to compliment the frame and makes your wedding picture the star on the shelf.

  5. Look for those pens next time I’m out.

Eye hooks, I vote eye hooks
